Work Accident Disabled Father Seeks Relief From Medical Expense Debt

by Kevin
(Kewanee, Illinois, USA)

It all started back in 1990 when I was hurt at work. I just about lost my right foot. God was with me and I still have it after a long recovery.

I was divorced just a week before getting hurt. I had custody of my son. I raised him on my own, but I had help because I was hurt.

All the doctors that looked at me, including Workers' Compensation, said I could not work and probably never would again.

I had to go on Social Security Disability and am on it still. I did receive a settlement and it was supposed to last until 2015. So because of that my Social Security was prorated. Until then, I'm not getting the full amount.

About seven years ago, I got deathly sick with pancreatitis. I spent three months in the hospital with less then a 20% chance of living.

I was on a ventilator and in intensive care for a part of that time. When I was released I was in and out of hospitals, sometimes for weeks at a time.

Medicare is all the insurance I had and they didn't pay for all the bills, so I had to use what was left after raising my son to pay off the rest of hospital and doctor bills.

With not getting my full amount each month I can't pay for the rest of my bills. I am $150,000 in debt and I receive $950 a month.

I may lose everything. Please help me get some relief from the debt caused by my medical expenses. Thank you for reading this. KRB from Illinois.

When you settled your workers compensation, did you keep your medical open?
