Vision Disabled Hispanic Single Mother Needs Grant Money For Medical Expenses

by Yasmina
(Miami, Florida, USA)

I am going to be someone!

I am going to be someone!

I am a 35-year-old visually impaired Hispanic single mother. I'm looking for grant money to help with medical expenses and help me be somebody.

I was diagnosed with solar retinopathy when I was 14 years old but it didn't really bother me other than having to move up to the front of my classes. I got good grades because of this:)

As I grew into my 20s, other tests were done for macular degeneration and specialists still have yet to know what's going on with my vision degenerating from early childhood.

With my visual impairment, I was declared disabled about two years ago, but I STILL WANT TO BE SOMEONE.

I am highly intelligent and have an overly curious active mind. I have gifts with communication, educating and science.

I love helping people do the right thing especially in these hard times. My dreams would be to:

- have my own advice column,
- open a non-profit local debt consolidation business,
- work in the area of science with NASA or private scientists or
- have a non-profit creative arts studio for kids where I can teach dance, drama, and get kids to get into activities and shows.

You have two choices: do "good" or do "harm." If you do nothing, you are doing harm.

I DO NOT get HEALTHCARE. I get something called "fair share" which I have to pay $711 a month for before I receive any health services.

I only get $774 a month in benefits. My children and I barely make it and only by God's grace do we eat and live.

I function and I think I fake my disability pretty well until someone asks me to read something as close as five feet away from me.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.... that's just a little aggravating but oh well, that's usually when I come clean and tell people I don't see well.

I cannot drive but I am okay being independent with public transportation. I WANT TO LIVE LIFE!!! I refuse to let my disability corner me and stop me from my dreams. I speak Spanish and English and I wouldn't mind learning another:)

I have the drive. I am a GO GETTER! I want to be successful!!! I believe in me I just need someone else to believe along with me.

Finding some grant money to help with medical expenses would be a great start.
