Veteran Seeks Government Grant Or Other Help With Finances

I am a veteran having served from 1962 to 1970. I had a heart attack (angioplasty - open heart surgery) in 1986 and as part of my treatment I ran.
I worked my way up to running full marathons / half marathons / 10 Ks / 5 Ks / etc while running five miles per day.
I eventually started riding a mountain/trail bike when on my birthday in 2001 had a stroke while riding in the desert.
Eventually I was admitted to hospital and underwent speech and physical rehab. Then it was rehab without walls where nurses visited me and I learned to walk again. I know how babies feel.
While in hospital I was also diagnosed with Type II diabetes, which probably caused the stroke. Almost nine years later I am disabled and not able to run or ride my bike BUT I can walk, albeit with a pronounced limp.
I have been denied SSI (disability) by OUR GOVERNMENT, although I cannot work. My story keeps going on and on and I can hardly wait to see what's next ... BUT ... I did wake up this morning and felt the Sun so all is not lost.
I do need any financial help that's out there but I don't consider myself a charity case. I do appreciate the unsolicited assistance given by others, such as holding doors, helping with seat belts, giving me more time and so on.
