Veteran Looking For A Government Grant For Service Dog Training

by Carl Wheland
(Tyrone, PA, USA)

I am a 48-year-old Navy submarine veteran looking for a government grant for service dog training.

In 1984 my problems started with Hodgkin's Disease. I underwent radiation therapy, which did stop the Hodgkin's; however the aftermath of the radiation therapy has been awful.

I had my thyroid disintegrate so I have to take medication for that. I also have nerve damage to my left side: arms, legs.

I then developed coronary and heart valve problems. I had to have two heart valves replaced, and I just most recently had a pacemaker implanted.

I will be going this week (9-18-09) to have cataract removal on the right eye and have to wait several weeks before they do the left eye.

I use crutches and canes to be mobile and use electric carts in stores. I also have COPD along with many other medical conditions.

All I am asking is for help to have my one-year-old Chocolate Lab trained and certified to assist me at home and in stores. A government grant for service dog training would be so appreciated.
