US Army Veteran Seeks Grants And Benefits For Self And Disabled Wife

by Jason
(Waynesboro, VA, USA)

My name is Jason and I am 33 years old. I served nine years in the Army, straight out of high school.

My wife was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of three. She is now a brittle diabetic, and no longer able to work. We have our first child on the way.

Over the past few years her disease has worsened, causing complications, and making it impossible to work even part time.

Her health will most likely continue to deteriorate over time.

She now has nerve damage and diabetic eye disease, but eventually will experience blindness, kidney failure, heart disease and limb amputations.

Due to my wife's inability to work, we are now not able to pay for the mortgage, car payments, vehicle insurance, utilities, food, etc.

We can't afford medical insurance, and my wife cannot access Medicaid or Medicare through the government, because she is not disabled enough.

Her medications and medical supplies are close to $1,000 every month. We are not making it.

My wife applied for disability a year ago, when she realized she was unable to work any longer. Of course, she has been denied.

I am self-employed now in order to be able to monitor her regularly and be able to get to her at anytime in case something happens.

Going to work for someone else is not an option, as I need to be available to her at all times.

We need help in getting SSDI approved and Medicare started for my wife.

I am also looking for any advice on possible grants available to me as a veteran, and any benefits available to my family.

I've already started my business, and I'm just working on getting established. I don't feel that I'm in need of, or would qualify for any kind of business grant.

Help for you
by: robert montgomery

Maybe I can help speed up your wife's disability. Like your wife I have Type 2 diabetes and 5 fragmented disks and very poor eyesight due in part to my diabetes.

We went through the denied process. If she is waiting on a hearing call your area's congressman and explain to him you're about to lose everything and your wife's situation. He should be able to look at your wife's case and help in speeding up the process in having her case be seen in front of the judge advocate.

I hope this helps you all. I know what you're going through. I've been there and if you figure out how to find grants for first-time home owner please let me know.
