Two Air Force Veterans Seek Government Grant Money For Proper Food

My disabled husband and I are honorably discharged (1979) veterans of the Air Force. And now we're looking for government grant money to put proper food on our table.
We are not retired. We were not injured while we served. My husband while working suffered an injury to his back around 1999 and hasn't worked since.
Workers Comp says he is 60% injured and blackballs him from working. Social Security says he must be 70% injured, so get a job. He is in a loophole.
My husband is about to turn 60 in March so I have two more years to wait for his social security.
The recession hit us hard. We lost our house and most of our belongings, and I lost my job.
We got an old 1987 RV, packed what we could and hit the road so I could look for work.
I found work in Wichita, Kansas and we will stay here as long as the job exists.
I work hard but we go hungry most of the time. I am afraid I will not be able to stay healthy long enough for my husband to receive social security.
I have problems keeping my potassium levels high enough. To keep my levels up I must eat properly which I cannot afford to do.
We do receive about $100 dollars in food stamps and we buy as much food that is high in potassium as we can. But that is not meals.
If someone could help us either in getting some government grant money or any sort of help to purchase food so we could eat healthy we would appreciate it. Thank you, Trudy.
