Single Mother Seeks Government Housing Grant For Extended Family

by Tonya Annette LeDay
(Houston, Texas, USA)

My son and I

My son and I

I wanted to know if there was anything to help me purchase a house. I'm thinking there has to be some kind of housing grant.

I wanted to purchase a house for my child, my disabled father, my mother who gets a widow's pension check, and myself.

I take care of both of my parents, and my three-year-old son plus I am a college student trying to make life better for my family and me.

I even relocated to Houston, Texas to get a new start at a new school. It's hard nowadays when you can't get unemployment or have trouble finding a job.

It's also hard to get on housing in Houston. I want a house because apartment life is hard when you live upstairs and having complaining neighbors below you.

I am afraid to get kicked out of the apartments because we would have nowhere to go. That's my main problem especially since we don't have anywhere to go, and plus my dad is a dialysis patient.

Housing Help in Texas
by: Katina from Accessible.org

Congratulations on making the effort to submit your story to Accessible.org.

With the publication of your story, you are now well on your way to:

1. Getting your story known to a wide audience that could help you.

2. Getting your story polished up and presentable so you can submit it elsewhere, including the White House.

As a disabled person myself, I can sympathize with your situation and I definitely understand your need for help.

I've done a bit of research and found these resources for you:

HUD Housing in Texas
http://portal.hud.gov/portal/page/portal/HUD/states/texas

NRCSHHM
National Resource Center on
Supportive Housing and Home Modification
http://www.usc.edu/dept/gero/nrcshhm/directory/

Please let us know if the resources have helped you in any way.
