Single Mother Seeks Government Grant For Accessible Home For Disabled Son

(Nashville, TN, USA)
My name is Lakisha Bradford, a single parent of two sons. Their ages are 10 and 8.
My 8 year old suffers from shaken baby syndrome, which took place when he was 5 months old. He has over 50% of brain damage along with many other medical conditions.
We live in a two-bedroom apartment that is not very accessible for my son's equipment. It's very small with not enough space to move around.
He will be having surgery in about three weeks and I'm not able to bring in any equipment that's needed for him after his surgery!
This situation has been very hard for my family and me because there is not much help from my immediate family or friends.
We are in desperate need of a vehicle that can transport my son to and from appointments.
I was finally able to go back to school to get my GED, which I received in February 2010! I want to further my education in Culinary Arts but tuition is very expensive.
Someday I would love to have my own restaurant to cater to people. Cooking is a passion that I have had for many years!
Also having my own business I believe is the only way I can still take care of my sons and be able to work my own hours.
I have tried to work other jobs but was not able to comply with company hours because of my youngest son's appointments and illnesses.
My family needs help mentally, emotionally and financially. We really don't get out often to visit or see a lot of things available for us to see.
My oldest son misses out on a lot because of our situation. He is a great son that tries his best to understand what's going on in our life.
At the end of the day he will still have desires to participate in various things that are offered, such as sports, and he loves band.
He deserves more than what I can and have given him in the 10 years since he was born.
My family needs help in many areas but most of all in housing, to give my sons a better and comfortable living space.
We are a happy and loving family just trying to make a better life for ourselves! A government housing grant is just what we need.
