Single Mom Myra Seeks Grant For Wheelchair Adapted Van For Disabled Son

by Myra Jimerson
(Uniontown, AL, USA)

Hello. My name is Myra. I have an 11-year-old son that's disabled. I'm looking for a grant to pay for a wheelchair-adapted van.

He has CP and he can't walk due to a stroke at birth. He has no use of his left side. He has spina bifida.

He has a VP shunt in his head due to a bleed on the brain and he has a history of seizures.

He can't go to the rest room on his own and has to wear diapers. He's 110 pounds and is very hard for me to lift in and out of my small Nissan.

I'm really in need of a wheelchair-adapted van to get him to doctor appointments.

My son is in a power wheelchair and I have a small car because I can't afford anything else right now.

I had to buy him a small fold-up chair to take him to the doctor and anywhere else we have go, which is limited because it's hard for me to lift him.

He really needs to be in his big chair at all times because he can't stretch his legs out to the foot rest, which causes his legs to swell.

I'm a single mom of two and with my son getting so big it's hard for me lifting him and I'm so scared of dropping him or falling with him. My son totally depends on me.

I really can't get a full time job because I have to be home to get him off the bus and take him to doctor appointments when he have to go.

So I just substitute at his school sometimes.

I'm in a desperate need of a wheelchair-adapted van to transport my son.

It hurts me because he has to miss out on some activities and he can't go places like the other kids.

I'm limited in taking him a lot of places because I have back problems. I can't lift as much as I use to.

We would be so grateful for whatever support we receive. Please Help Me! Thank You!

Hurts to read this story...
by: TSJ

I am Gregory's aunt, Taneshia. It really hurts our family to see my sister struggle with him on a daily basis. When Greg was smaller I would get all seven of my nieces and nephews, but due to his size I can't lift him at all, therefore I don't get them anymore, because I don't want to leave him out. He likes to go on evening rides and sometimes he just can't go, because my sister's back hurts so bad due to all the lifting she does throughout the day. My sister's car is a small Nissan Sentra and it is extremely hard getting him in and out. Please do whatever you can to help them, because they really deserve it.

A loving and caring aunt
