At our Family Plot
I used to work at Dun & Bradstreet and Morgan Stanley and knew nothing about disability or worker's compensation while employed.
I was working full-time but should not have been working at all from 1992-2000. I needed three ankle surgeries, knee surgery, calf surgery, and major back surgery.
I was born with a narrow spinal canal and played lots of sports and was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and bipolar disorder. I take various meds daily.
I was also in a major motorcycle accident in 1983 and nearly lost my life. I was in the hospital for two weeks and they did major surgery on my right leg. The tibia healed 13 degrees off so, they had to re-break it and put a plate in (osteotomy).
I nearly lost my life again, in 1989, when the Huntington Beach, CA Police used excessive force and had me in a lethal choke hold.
My back surgery had permanent complications such as: the inability to move one's bowels, urinary incontinence and leakage, nerve damage in the sacrum area, atrophied and underdeveloped right leg, erectile dysfunction, and very severe calf cramps/spasms.
I now am in need of a complex spinal fusion and cannot afford a more recent MRI, the surgery itself, the hospital bill, etc.
I can only walk about 100 feet then I have to sit down. I can only sit for brief periods and am in chronic back pain. I spend several hours daily on my bed on my back resting my back and ankles.
I also owe Social Security about $13,000 in disability overpayments from 2005-2007. I worked part time too many hours and went over the guideline limits, even though a Social Security Representative said that they look at your average monthly earnings.
I cannot afford to pay this off. They started deducting $75 a month a year and a half ago from my monthly benefit check.
I need that money for food - I did not qualify for food stamps. I will need a used car since my Nissan is 13 years old. And, I need to move out my residence that has a concrete foundation and move to an older house with a wooden foundation.
I have been on Social Security Disability Early Retirement since age 40 or since 2000. I have been on Medicare for about the same time.
I am in desperate need of $15,000 for the complex spinal fusion and $13,000 for the Social Security debt.
The condition of my back has worsened over the past year or two. It is time to get it fixed. I want to be able to enjoy life more and be able to get out of my room and off my bed.
I am not working and plan on having the surgery done at Stanford Hospital. Any government grant you can direct me to is much appreciated.
