Severely Disabled Vietnam Veteran Unable To Live On Veterans Compensation
by Kenneth Dixon
(Nogales, AZ, USA)
I am a Vietnam era veteran with several service-connected disabilities.
The 70% rating is $1,000 short of meeting my family monthly monetary needs.
I am service connected for the following conditions:
- 30% for the left knee
- 10% more for arthritis of the knee
- 30% for a right knee condition and its injuries
- 10% for a ringing in the ears caused by being around running jet engines
- 10% for an ankle broken three times
The broken ankle is due to the Veterans Administration refusing to perform and left knee replacement.
At this point I also have had a broken left wrist and calcaneus on my right foot, for which I receive no payment.
I receive 0% for injury conditions and scarring of the right thigh and the lower right lumbar injury.
Seven doctors, including three Veterans Administration doctors, state that I have a condition which prior to 1978 was called combat nervous and today is known as PTSD.
I have told the story of this maybe 50 times to the Veterans Administration and they refuse to pay the benefit for it.
This does not change the fact that my present mental health doctor treats me for the PTSD and I am markedly better for it.
