Service Connected Disabled Veteran Seeks Government Housing Grant Money
by Robert Bowling
(Highland Heights, KY, USA)
I am a service-connected disabled veteran, and I need government housing grant money or any kind of help in making our house a home.
My name is Robert Bowling. I was in the Kentucky National Guard from 1999-2002.
I decided that I wanted to do something that would make a difference so I went Active Duty Army in 2002 and stayed until 2009.
I had intentions to retire, but due to back issues that occurred during my time in service I decided to get out at the end of my second contract.
During the almost seven years I was in, I was deployed to Iraq on three different occasions for a total of thirty months.
You throw in all the training and other events and you can tell I was home very little. When I did go Active Duty Army, it was my wife, my daughter (Lottie), and myself. I had my second daughter (Sarah) while I was in the service.
Upon getting out, I found how difficult times really were. The economy was horrible and the job market was equally bad.
Before I went in the service, you may have had ten people applying for a particular job. Now, you would have hundreds applying for that same job. The times have changed.
I decided I wanted to work, if at all possible, for a VA Hospital so I could be around personnel like myself and help them the best I could.
I got out in June 2009 and was blessed to get a job at a VA Hospital in October 2009. It was like a dream come true.
Upon getting out of the service, I couldn't buy a home for I didn't have a job. Once getting a job, I bought my first home in January 2010.
It is an older home built in the 1950s and needs a lot of work. It is what I could afford and it was something that we could call ours.
I thought I would be able to make the needed repairs to the house, but it has become quite overwhelming.
The house that we looked forward to coming home to everyday was no longer that.
In today's world, it is hard to do anything extra or find money to do anything, especially with a family of four.
With my wrist and back situation, I am not able to do the things that I would like to. Government housing grant money or any kind of equivalent help really would be most welcome.
