Rheumatoid Arthritis Disabled Woman Seeks Transportation And Housing Grant

by Teresa Faircloth
(Williamsburg, VA, USA)

My name is Teresa Faircloth. I am 48 years old, disabled and living on SSI due to severe rheumatoid arthritis. I'm looking for a transportation and housing grant.

I lost my only two sons. The three month old died from crib death in 1986. The 16 year old died in 1998 from a massive heart attack due to a condition we were unaware of called prolonged QT syndrome.

I became disabled one year and three months after his death. The doctors believe it was too much stress on me.

I cannot walk at all now and have not been able to for almost three years. I am in a motorized power chair and have home health care and caregivers.

It is a daily struggle for me and my two beautiful daughters and five precious grandchildren I am blessed with.

I am suffering hardships because of my health and my financial situation. I am homebound.

I live in a Section 8 house, because my credit or income does not qualify for an apartment. My house has three bedrooms.

I pay electric bills on a budget plan of $222 a month, a propane gas bill of $444 every two or three months for hot water and cooking.

My monthly phone bill is about $40 and water bills between $40 and$50. I also have paper products plus personal items I have to buy every month

With an income of only $674 a month plus food stamps at $67, something is obviously always getting cut off.

Organizations are tired of helping me so much. I cannot find a roommate unless they have a drug or alcohol problem, which won't work with me.

I have no money left for food through the month or for gas money to pick up my medications, which are about 12 or 13 a day.

I have been in physical therapy for two years to no avail and they still want me to attend physical therapy.

I have my own van but it needs fixing as well as a ramp. I also need better housing situations. A grant would help with both transportation and housing.

I am trying to survive daily. I am scared I am going to be homeless soon in a power chair. Sounds like fun huh? I don't know what to do or where to go. Please help.
