RA Disabled Single Mother Of Two With Back Pain Cannot Survive On $300 Monthly
by Brenda
(Wilmington, NC, USA )
My name is Brenda. I am 55 years of age. I have a 14-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old grandson that depend on me for support.
My husband and I have been separated for a very long time. I have been maintaining my family on my own.
On September 29 2010, I could no longer work due to back problems. I have applied for Disability, but I have not yet been approved. I also have rheumatoid arthritis.
In the process of waiting to be approved for disability, my kids and I have to live off $300 a month plus food stamps.
I have been to so many places for help only to always be turned down. They say they cannot help me because I don't have enough income to pay my rent.
DSS was about to cut me off from my food stamps last month and when I called, my caseworker told me that it didn't look good.
I asked what she meant and she said that because I don't have enough income to pay my rent it makes it seem as though I take the food stamps to pay my rent.
That really hurt my feelings. If people can't help you, why would they hurt you instead?
The truth is I am so behind in my rent I am afraid that if something doesn't come through soon, we will get put out. With the strength of God, I have just been barely getting by.
I have been to churches, DSS, Salvation Army and family aid. It seems as though everybody is slamming a door in my face.
I have tried to find something I could do online, but everything has a fee. With $300 a month income, I can barely pay $3 for my prescriptions.
It has come to a point I have gone into depression. I need financial assistance. Please help us!
