Paraplegic 20 Year Old Woman Seeks Grant Money For Education And Debt

by Nicholette Peoples
(Scranton, PA, USA)

In the Middle

In the Middle

I am a very active and outgoing person who has had a very traumatic experience. My name is Nicholette Peoples. I am a paraplegic.

When I was 16 years old I was in a very serious car accident on my way to work, and on that day my entire life had changed.

I broke my back in three different spots , my collar bone, most of my ribs, and collapsed a lung. I was told I would never walk again.

I spent the roughest year of my life in the hospital and rehab hospital fighting for my life and learning how to function again.

Today four years later, 20 years old, it has not been easy but I have come so far. I am completely independent and I live alone.

I cannot work because my body does not function normally, and because of the excruciating back pain I experience.

My income is very stressful to me. I have little help from the state and I have unpaid medical bills.

I cannot afford insurance so I rely on state insurance, which doesn't cover nearly enough.

Between my rent, my utilities, groceries, and medical needs I don't have nearly enough money.

My education is very important to me even through my unfortunate events. I still graduated high school with my class of 2008.

I am finally ready to pursue my education and I want to get my bachelor's degree in business.

After my accident my desire to become someone who makes a difference has deeply grown. Unfortunately I could not put myself through school on my very little income.

Money is not something I like to think about but obviously we can't live without it. I have never tried for any type of government grant or for any extra help but I desperately need it.

I guess what I am asking for is any possible grant I could get for my bills, medical needs, and education. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
