NMS Disabled Army Veteran Seeks Grant Or Other Debt Relief Solution

by Troy Hanson
(Robinson, IL, USA)

When I was 18, I joined the army to serve my country and travel. Now I'm seeking a debt relief solution.

While in boot camp I was sent to the psychiatric ward In Fort Knox. I hadn't sleep for about three days and was hallucinating and confused.

While on the ward, I was administered lithium, then Haldol. I had a drug interaction that halfway paralyzed me, preventing me from lifting my arms or controlling my bladder.

Basically its called neuroleptic malignant syndrome or NMS. It's a life-threatening, although rare neurological disorder most often caused by an adverse reaction to neuroleptic or antipsychotic drugs.

Later I read in a drug book not to mix lithium and Haldol. The army denies that it happened, but did diagnose me with schizophrenia.

I was discharged on a temporarily disabled retirement list. They sent me home to Illinois. I went three years without another episode. Then all heck broke loose.

Within two months I'd been to a local psychiatric ward seven times. From that point I've been to that one more times than I remember and another a couple times and the state psych ward.

I'm on medication that works for me now after 10 years of trial and error and it has been seven years since I've been on a psych ward.

I have tried going to college more than once and the dilemma I'm in now is that I took out a personal student loan with a balance of $30,000 after deferments and interest.

I'm on social security disability and can't make the payments, which would take the next 30 years to pay off. I am in need of a grant to get rid of this debt.

I have other debts but this is one I can't afford to pay without financial assistance of some sort.
