New Single Mother Seeks Government Housing Grant For Young Baby

by Larryssa White
(New Iberia, Louisiana, USA)

I would like to start off by saying that I am a teacher assistant in the Iberia Parish School Board in Louisiana.

I am currently on child care assistance and food stamps. My monthly income doesn't cover rent, car note, childcare, and car insurance as well as utility assistance.

My community gave out vouchers for utility assistance, but I was working and by the time I made it to the office they were out of money.

I don't have any family support and I don't like asking for handouts, but it is for my son.

It is not his fault that his father doesn't want to pay child support and the system is not making him responsible. It his not his fault that his mother doesn't make enough money.

I am trying to go back to school, and learned that my student loan has recently been in default from a University that stole the money and I have no was to prove it.

So once again my life is on hold to support my 9-month old son. I voted for this administration, because I believed that they are the voice of the poor man who is working. With God at our side, "Yes We Can!"

As a granddaughter of a World War II Veteran, I have faith in this country and believe that compassion for the people is still alive. Thank you, Larryssa White.

by: Katina from Accessible.org

Congratulations on making the effort to submit your story to Accessible.org.

With the publication of your story, you are now well on your way to:

1. Getting your story known to a wide audience that could help you.

2. Getting your story polished up and presentable so you can submit it elsewhere, including the White House.

As a disabled person myself, I can sympathize with your situation and I definitely understand your need for help.

I've done a bit of research and found these resources for you:

HUD Housing Program
http://portal.hud.gov/portal/page/portal/HUD/states/louisiana

NRCSHHM
National Resource Center on
Supportive Housing and Home Modification
http://www.usc.edu/dept/gero/nrcshhm/directory/

Please let us know if the resources have helped you in any way.
