MS Disabled Single Father Seeks Government Grant Money To Avoid Foreclosure

by Jeff Hill
(Chase, MI, USA)

I am a 51-year-old man that is fighting numerous battles on every front. I'm looking for government grant money to avoid foreclosure

I suffer with the effects of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis that has me stuck in a wheelchair with a bleak outlook of never getting better.

With this strain of MS it is a steady decline, with nothing to slow the process.

I was diagnosed in 2003, and soon after I had to forfeit my job as a Youth Counselor, a job that I looked forward to everyday.

Living next door to my Mother, (who was in bad health also) I started spending my days doing what I could for her while not forgetting my own family. This took up my time and gave me a sense that I was still useful as a functioning human being.

One day Mom said it was getting to be too hard on us living next door and running over to her house to help with chores. She asked I we would move in with her seeing she had a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house that wasn't being used.

We agreed, after all she said she was leaving the house to us anyhow. We moved in December, and while it was a bit trying at times, we made the adjustment.

Little did I know at the time, but the wife was involved with a man on the Internet, and the first week in June, chose to walk out on our 16 year old son and myself to fend for ourselves.

Soon after, without notice, she canceled our insurance, filed for divorce, and moved to The Netherlands with this guy.

Now, being struck with MS so early (I had 15-20 years to work yet) in life, my Social Security is not a whole lot, and I now had my son to take care of on my own.

My wife has paid $200 on a $7,500 child support arrears and I can't get any agency to help me collect. She returns to the U.S. two to three times a year. When I let them know she is here they tell me that I'm just looking to start trouble.

In the meantime, my son and I have been begging like a dog for a bone since having to join the ranks of the poor Americans, while she sends post cards from all over the world 'they' have traveled.

We have had to max out credit cards for heat, electric, food, just living month to month and trying to get my son through his last couple of years of high school with NO help.

I was hoping and praying to God above that we would be able to get a low-interest Government loan or short term Mortgage to consolidate our bills and build a ramp and a shower for my disability needs.

I am have a hard time with day-to-day living needs. And our taxes are behind to the point that they are threatening foreclosure on us. So we may lose our home.

I beg and plead for a loan that will get our heads above water. We can pay it back. We own our home with 10 acres, and all we need is about a 1/4 of the home value to let us live again.

Thank you so much for your valuable time. Jeff Hill, Chase, Michigan.

Jeff,

I don't know if this will help or not but I know there are places that focus on the dads getting help to get the child support that is due them. I am not sure how good they are but it's at least worth a try. These are two websites I found that might be able to help you at least in that area:

www.dadsofmichigan.org/legal.html
www.lawyers.com/Fathers-Rights/Michigan/browse-by-city.html

I thought we might have to go that route for my husband with his ex-wife.

I will also keep you and your son in my prayers. I am dealing with the disease of MS too here in MI. I need the use of a cane and a walker but I can still get around. I have been tested for a device called Bioness L300. Insurance won't cover it, of course, but for me, it worked. Check out www.bioness.com. The place that made my AFO brace tested me a few months ago. I am 36 and feel like I am MUCH older. I am a certified teacher and can't get a job here in MI and am dealing with the footdrop, fatigue, and problems with my hand at times. (The one of course that I write with.)

I believe that God is able to get us through anything. He's the one I am leaning on.

With Prayers and Hope,
Michelle
