MS Disabled Senior Seeks Government Grant For Accessible Van

by D. A. Burford
(Stuarts Draft, Virginia, USA)

I have had MS since 1963 and have never had to ask for help, but the time has come; I need help now.

My doctor says I now need an electric wheelchair. Between my Medicare and other insurance, it looks like I will qualify for one free.

My husband and I are 76 and 72 and live on Social Security and his pension. We have no other income as he was laid off last August and cannot find work.

The chair will help me remain in my home and that is great, as I do not want to go into a nursing home.

However, I have no way to transport my chair to doctors' appointments or to do grocery shopping.

I need a handicapped equipped van, but have no money to buy one. I do have an older car (evaluated at $5,000) I could trade or try to sell, but in no way would it even come close to paying for the van.

If anyone knows how I can apply or where to apply for a van, Please help me.

I know there has to be help out there. I just do not know where to go. My husband and I have always worked and never had to ask for help but find I must at this time.

Thanks for reading and if you can help me please leave comments here.
