MS Disabled Man Needs Government Grant For Minivan With Wheelchair Lift

by Robert Hicks
(Litchfield, Illinois, USA)

Hi, I have been disabled for three years because of a stroke. I have also been diagnosed with MS, which interferes with rehab.

Needing to get to doctor appointments and such, I need a suitable vehicle. I have a 1999 van, but I have no wheelchair lift. This keeps me stranded at home.

To get to appointments I have to climb up into the passenger seat, leaving my power chair behind, which is becoming more and more difficult as the MS progresses.

Once at my destination my wife has to push me in a regular wheelchair, something I can't do because of the MS.

There is also a serious problem with the tops of the struts that are rusted and about to come crashing through the firewall and into the windshield. Not a good situation.

I can't afford repairs, or to finance another vehicle. Once this van breaks down I have no way of getting around.

My only option is to find something like a grant. If you could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
