MS Disabled Kindergarten Teacher Seeks Grant Money For Home Modification
by Marsha
(Daytona Beach, Florida, USA)
I am a 42-year-old teacher living in Daytona Beach Florida. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2000.
I have been able to hold my job as a kindergarten teacher the entire time since being diagnosed.
Recently I have suffered major setbacks with my health. My left leg has begun to swell and atrophy has set in.
I cannot bend my left leg, which makes getting in and out of the shower very difficult. I have been to countless doctors and therapists, all with the same if not similar diagnosis.
I fall a lot and most of the falls occur while in my own home especially while trying to get in or out of the tub. The falls have caused me to miss work. I fear for my job, if one of the falls turns serious.
I am seeking a grant that would help modify my home especially the bathroom, with a walk-in shower, and ramps throughout the house and outside so I can use a power chair. The bathroom needs to be modified for wheelchair or walker accessibility.
My love for teaching is very strong and I want to continue it. But if I cannot modify my home, I cannot continue working if the falls continue and get worse, especially while I try to get in or out of the tub.
If anyone could point me to a government grant or any financial or other assistance to help me out, I would so appreciate it.
