Mother Seeking Grant For Modifications Of Bathroom For Recently Disabled Son

by Cynthia Johnson
(Fort Smith, AR, USA)

My name is Cynthia Johnson. My son Taylor was in a car accident in December of 2009. He broke his neck at level C7 and unfortunately is paralyzed from the chest down.

I am looking for a grant in order to redo the bathroom in our home so it will be handicap accessible.

It has been over six months since the accident and Taylor is still in the hospital recovering from complications. Hopefully within the next month or so I will get to bring him back home where he belongs.

We live in Arkansas but the health care in the state is lacking somewhat so I was able to transfer him to Baylor Medical thanks to my healthcare plan.

While there he was accepted for Texas Medicaid. That is awesome, other than I cannot receive any benefits for our house modifications from Medicaid because we live out of state.

Arkansas will not pick him up until he gets out of the hospital, but then what do I do about a bathroom for him in the meantime?

Taylor has worked so hard to get to rehab and home. I would love for it to be as easy as transition for him as possible.

If there is any help out there for our family, it would be so much appreciated.

Summer / Winter Heating/ Cooling Programs:
Contact the social service agency in your area that helps with heating/electric bills. You may qualify for a $175.00 help with the electric bill, and/or an air conditioner. This goes for anyone living under the federal poverty level for the previous three months.

Hope this helps!
Good luck!
