Mother Of Down Syndrome Daughter Seeks Government Grant

by Virginia Anthony
(Scottville, MI, USA)

I am 56 and I have lost my husband and my home. There was no government help for me.

I have a daughter who is disabled with Down syndrome. I left my love in order to take care of her. She needs more attention. She is first in my life. I am a diabetic with heart problems.

I do not have an auto, so we have to rely on others to get us to appointments and shopping. I am praying for some help. It is hard to ask for help yet sometimes we just need to.

I will never be famous or have a career, but I will be known as being my daughter's mom who did her best to give whatever she asked for.

Our area is economy strained. If there is anything you may be able to do, we would so appreciate it.

We will keep praying for whatever comes to us and be thankful for that. Sincerely, Virginia, Anthony and Toni.

Disabled and Daughter Disabled
by: Anonymous

I was a nurse for many, many years. My heart and soul ache for you. However, I realize pride can many times get in the way of asking for help. I literally cried when I had to get a handicapped license tag for my vehicle.

We are Hurricane Katrina victims, and at my age and not having flood insurance it just about took me apart, both physically, and mentally. Frankly I could write a book on our journey to get straight; however, I will not burden you and/or any other readers with our problems.

I have advice for you. Contact the Council on People with Disabilities. I am sure you already get a check for your child. You need to file for your disability. It took me over three years. Do not go to a big attorney. Get one that is dedicated and does only social security disability.

The US is in dire straights as well; however with the correct documentation of your ailments and a good disability attorney, you can get it. I originally hired one that advertised, TOO BIG.

When it was time to go to court, that day literally, she asked me if I had new X-rays and or MRIs. I was in the state of shock. I told her, listen if you would have told me I needed that I would have had my MD order it. Remember just because they advertise on TV they are not always dedicated to the client.

I had to refile and in addition that made me lose all of the back pay. I wish you luck, and may God Bless you and your daughter. Remember this.. GOD ONLY GIVES THESE SPECIAL CHILDREN TO THOSE HE FEELS CAN HANDLE THEM.

Call your local County and see what help they can offer. Contact Habitat for Humanity, okay? GOOD LUCK, and best wishes on your journey for assistance!!!
