Loving Single Mom Seeks Government Housing Grant For Respectful Environment

by Monica
(Illinois, USA)

I am a 35-year-old mom of two, ages 8 and 18. From the time I was 16 I have run into financial troubles over and over.

Every time I think things are moving in the right direction something seems to stop me dead in my tracks: divorce, a child with emotional/behavior problems, etc.

I am currently enrolled in school but have a year and half left and I have recently become unemployed.

I am forced to live with my parents and they only make matters worse with my son (with behavior/emotional issues).

They do not respect what counseling has taught us. Until I can get my credit cleaned up and some money in the bank, we are forced to stay here.

Respect is not something that is shown in this house and living with them has had a negative effect on the grandchild/grandparent relationship.

It has had a negative effect on us all. I am searching for a personal grant to help with debt and to get moved out.

Housing Help in Illinois
by: Katina from Accessible.org

Hello,

I'm so glad you posted your story at Accessible.org!

Being a student is the greatest thing you could do in your young life, at any age really. I didn't start school until the age of twenty nine. No one told me that there were scholarships available when I first enrolled. When I found a few scholarships to apply for, it was like finding gold under the rainbow.

The gold was actually hope.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters is a valuable organization to become involved with while in college, or beforehand.

Another good program is the Americorp program. If you needed a year off, it may be the place to consider. They give students opportunities to work with local organizations, earn income, and receive medical insurance and a nice scholarship at the end of their one-year term of service.

Here are some resources I found for you that have to do with housing. Please let me know if the resources have helped you in any way.

Keep going to school, if you can. You'll thank yourself later. You can do it!!!

Good luck,

If you need help reviewing a scholarship essay, the best place to start is the English Department of your university.

You?d be surprised how helpful a professor can be when they know a student is making the effort, and how important it is for them to find funding.
