Learning Disabled Pamela Seeks Government Housing Grant For Home Repairs

by Pamela
(DeBerry, Texas, USA)

My name is Pamela, and I was born with a learning disability. It took a few years before I was able to receive disability benefits.

I'm living in a use two-bedroom mobile home that is 30+ years old, and is infected with termites and ants, and the electricity on one side does not work. The disability that I receive helps me to pay bills, and I receive $60 in food stamps.

One of my brothers, who was away in the military (at the time) was about to lose his home to foreclosure. He went to a private investor to refinance his house, and I was made the co-signer on his contract.

He did not make any payments on this note. The investor came to me for collection. I was and still am unable to make the payments on this loan. The notes are more than I can afford on my disability.

I've tried to obtain help, including different types of loans. I have been unsuccessful. Please help me.

Getting this grant will help me to either redo my mobile home or obtain new housing. Thank you! Pamela.

Congratulations on making the effort to submit your story to Accessible.org.

With the publication of your story, you are now well on your way to:

1. Getting your story known to a wide audience that could help you.

2. Getting your story polished up and presentable so you can submit it elsewhere, including the White House.

As a disabled person myself, I can sympathize with your situation and I definitely understand your need for help.

I've done a bit of research and found these resources for you:

HUD Housing in Texas
http://portal.hud.gov/portal/page/portal/HUD/states/texas

NRCSHHM
National Resource Center on
Supportive Housing and Home Modification
http://www.usc.edu/dept/gero/nrcshhm/directory/

Please let us know if the resources have helped you in any way.
