Immune Disease Disabled Man Seeks Government Housing Grant Or Loan
by Michael Frazier
(Los Angeles, CA, USA)
I was born as Michael Frazier January 1961. I was hospitalized shortly after coming home. Now I'm looking for a government grant or loan to help buy a good family home.
My father was a miner my mother a stay-at-home mom. They were not real familiar about diseases of the immune system.
After having double pneumonia and ear infections, it all became part of my life until I was 21 years old when I had an intestine rupture from a rare gastrointestinal disease.
I spent my 21st birthday in the USC Medical Center hospital here in Los Angeles for a month.
I bled to death and by some miracle came back to life from the help of some great doctors who noticed that once again I had double pneumonia.
This was my 27th pneumonia. During this hospitalization I had met my true love Elaine with whom I've been married for 31 years now.
She is a healthcare worker and does tracheotomy care and g-tube feedings for the LA County Office of Education. She makes about thirty thousand a year working with the severely disabled.
She became pregnant with our first son who is now 27 years old and just out of the Army after five years. My youngest son Brennen is also out of the Army.
I held jobs mainly part-time barely supporting my family. Many times more than I wish to admit, I went to the Salvation Army for food and clothes. Thank God for that Organization.
Backing up to 1982 I was finally diagnosed with a rare Primary Immune Deficiency and was given the terrible news because in 1982 there was no treatment let alone even a cure for such a horrific disease. My parents shunned me.
Elaine and I were living in our car when she was pregnant with our second child and we had no healthcare.
I started being a research subject for Children's Hospital with Dr. Joseph Church and Dr. Adelma and Saxon.
I got wax infused injections after they were warmed in a heating device. It was one large needle and syringe in each hip. I cried after the injections because it hurt more after the injections than before.
I finally got a part-time job with a local school district. They fired me after working there six years because I was costing their insurance policy $90,000 a month for a new IV treatment for which I had been a research Guinea pig.
I went to college thinking I was going to be somebody and boy did I fool myself. I graduated and became seriously ill with colitis and pneumonia again.
I finally got Social Security after Nicholis Parks (a blind man I met) helped me fight Social Security to get immune deficiencies in the DSM Books.
It wasn't just for me but also people suffering from AIDS as well that I did that. Nicholis and I were crusaders for a while.
One thing my wife and I always dreamed of was owning a home but even though we worked hard, low incomes and illness made it not possible. But we are proud of raising our sons.
My wife has been on her job 21 years and we have been trying to buy a home. We keep getting shuffled around to different lenders. I think they are too embarrassed to say a family with only $40,000 a year will never own a home.
Anyway my wife fell ill recently contracting a spine disease from lifting to diaper her patients. At the school she caught a staph infection and is just getting over that.
If you can direct us toward a loan or grant so we may own our own home, we would forever be in your debt. Thank you Michael.
