Husband Of 56 Year Old Alzheimer Disabled Wife Seeks Government Housing Grant
by James Walker
(Weeki Wachee, Florida, USA)
My wife is on disability and she gets $694 a month, which is all we have to live on.
I got laid off over two years ago, and have filed for disability myself. It takes two years or more to receive it.
I have a pacemaker, bad back, sleep disorder, arthritis, and I'm not in such good shape.
I take care of my wife as best as I can. Her memory is getting worse and she is unable to do much. We lost our mobile home about a year ago. It was repoed.
My mother helped us buy an older (1980) home, not in too good shape and it is not finished being set up. I thought I could do it myself but it's too much.
We have no air conditioning and the electricity and plumbing are just hooked up so we can live here, not to pass inspection.
I am afraid that at some point we may become homeless if we don't find the money to finish the setup.
I used all the money we had just to get a roof over my wife's head and I need help to keep it.
It's hard to watch the one you love become someone you don't know. I just want a place that she can be comfortable in until she is gone.
I need help and that is something I'm not used to asking for. I've worked all my life, not making too much money, but we got by.
Now as we are getting older and our health is bad, no one seems to care.
I need grants to fix this home up for her and to put air conditioning in. Please help if you can. James R. Walker.
