Gregory Payne here. I'm a 43-year-old accident disabled Navy veteran and now single father.
I'm looking for government grants or any other assistance for proper housing for my family.
I have two kids Mary 10, and John 8. They both have ADHD, for which they take 36 mg tablets of Concerta.
I served in the US Navy till I injured my back, and dislocated my right shoulder. I got out, and after recovering I went to work with my father in the HVAC field.
I was up 42 feet on a scaffold installing a sidewall mounted condenser unit. I turned off the breaker, put tape on it and wrote on it, "do not turn on."
While I was up their hooking up the power, someone turned it on, and it shot me off the scaffold to the ground.
I cracked several discs, and it has caused me severe pain plus seven back surgeries, and so many injections it numbers in the hundreds.
Now I'm totally disabled. We need help with expenses, a car and lift for my power chair, and a grant to buy a home.
We live in housing where my kids always get picked on, and beat up. It's a high crime area due to drugs, and the violence caused by drugs.
Please help us because I only get a SSDI check for $827, which barely pays my bills so I put a lot on credit cards, that I'm having trouble paying now.
I know we need a lot, but please help us with a government grant or charity grant; we don't care which one just please help us.
I have severe pain due to the 42-foot fall and all the damage to my spine.
I also was hit by a semi that ran a red light while coming back from my social security disability hearing, and it caused even more damage to my back.
The first accident was in 1998 the second was in 2003. I was ruled totally disabled by the hearing judge at the SSDI hearing.
I have to have bimonthly back injections, and daily pain medication including Fentanyl, and Lidoderm patches.
From not being able to do much, and depression I got up to 345 lbs, and had to have bariatric surgery (gastric-bypass), losing 225 lbs.
I have a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my back that's supposed to help with the pain, but with everything I take and use, I'm in so much pain all the time its about unbearable.
My financial hardships are the fact that my SSDI check doesn't pay for a good place to live. That's why I live in public housing.
Then there's the copay on all my medications, the phone bill, loan payment and the insurance on my 2000 explorer truck.
There's also the cost of my kids' tutors, plus the gas going to pick them up, and to go to the doctors, church, and other necessary events that happen.
I have a power chair but I don't have a transporter on my car so I can't take it with me so it's not of much use, except around the house and neighborhood.
I can't afford to buy a house or the transporter for my car or a new energy efficient vehicle. Please help.
I'm on SSDI and can't work at all. If I do show an income I lose my SSDI. I have looked at home jobs, but they ask for money to start, and I just don't have it.
I go to charities for food, but they don't have cash assistance not even gas cards to make doctors appointments.
I go to church every Wednesday, and Sunday. They've helped a little but they don't have a lot in these times. I pray daily so maybe here is my answer, and you can get me a grant.
I'm looking for benefits, and a grant to be able to get a home, car, and to pay off my credit cards.
I also need an attorney to get custody of my daughter who lives with me, but her mom gets her SSI check for her ADHD, and her food stamps.
Finally I need the lift carrier for my car to carry my power chair.
