I'm 40-year-old PTSD disabled Army veteran looking for grants for vets for home repairs.
Married 10 years, my wife and I have two kids, a girl and a boy. I feel that I have everything I need in my family, but cannot support them the way I would like to.
I served my country with honor, love and respect. The Army trained me well. I did a tour of duty in Desert Storm.
After getting discharged from the military, I began working construction and later worked 10 years at a state prison.
After the military, I struggled mentally and emotionally. I was injured while serving and dealt with my insanity. Coming home was hard to do. I recently got some help from the VA.
I served in the military from 1990 to 1994. I was diagnosed with PTSD. During the war I injured my knees, hand, both legs and back. I just had back surgery and I have a hard time adjusting.
I cannot work at the moment but need the money to help keep up on bills and house. I cannot walk without pain and suffering with mental and emotional issues. I take meds to try to keep it under control.
My wife cannot work due to lupus and it is hard on her to think I cannot provide to keep things going. She gets angry with herself because she cannot help out like she would like. It is hard on to disabled parents. It is a struggle and very depressing situation for all of us.
Right now I am at risk of losing my home if I cannot go back to work soon. It is difficult to go to work with back trouble and dealing with stress at home.
I have a lot of flashbacks and I dream about war and prison every night. I cannot escape this nightmare. Not even when I sleep. It follows me wherever I go.
Paying our bills and knowing our home needs repairs is hard to deal with right now.
My wife has to drive me wherever we go. We only have one car, so when she leaves to pick up kids from school I have no way to go if I had to leave. I pray that God will have mercy.
My wife and I take a lot of meds for different conditions and it gets expensive.
One day I hope to build a home built for our disabilities. She sometimes has to stay in bed due to lupus flares. I on the other hand use a cane or the walker.
Using our equipment for various things is hard to do in our home. For instance we need a shower chair but our bathroom will not allow it. There are other things to speak of, but this is what I am dealing with.
I am attempting to get 100% with the VA. My job as a correctional sergeant is in question due to back surgery and the difficulty to walk.
Work right now is not an option for my wife or me. Neither one of us can sit, walk or do anything for a long period due to pain.
Our church has not visited or offered any help. I am very disappointed.
I do not know much about grants and how to apply for them. That is why I found this website to help me with applying for a grant.
Trying to get donations is a difficult task for me. My wife's family has tried to help us. When it comes down to supporting your family you try not to ask for handouts but this is my attempt to.
I'm looking for advice to what to do in my situation and what types of help I can get to help me at this time.
I really need a veteran's grant or some type of income at this time. If there is anything I can apply for please give me direction.
My wife is working with Davison about an idea she has that might help in the future. Without having the money to get it started, it will be hard to finish the project.
We cannot discuss the product because it is not patented yet. We hope this product will save lives and help people who are in pain.
