Grants For Disabled Women Like Myself

by Lisa
(Simpsonville, SC, USA)

I'm a 41-year-old female looking for grants for disabled women like myself. I've been disabled since 2005. Before that I was a registered nurse in an ICU trauma unit for 15 years.

I fell very ill with systemic lupus and fibromyalgia and severe depression. I also had major gastric surgery secondary to a ruptured hiatal hernia. I am malnourished due to the fact I can't eat as much as I would like to.

My ex-husband abandoned me after I had a heart attack from stress which makes my lupus worse. I live with pain daily and have been bed-bound for the most of five years. I need both knees replaced and help with my medical bills.

Since I've been ill, I've lost over 125 pounds and continue to lose weight despite eating as much as I can. I've lost everything and I'm now homeless.

I need help and have just about lost all hope of ever having a productive life and home of my own. If anyone can help it would be a miracle for me.

If there's anyone who knows how to help me find grants for disabled women like myself, it would be a miracle for me. All I ask for is a home and car and help with my medical care and bills.

I've been hospitalized over 40 times in the past five years and I don't get enough in Social Security Disability to provide for myself the basic needs for a life.

You are not alone!
by: dhp

No matter what, trust God. I am a black female, 40 years old who has lupus also. The lupus attacked my kidneys and caused them to fail. Currently I am on dialysis three times a week and because of that had to give up my job I held for 14-1/2 years. Since I've been ill, our lives (my husband's and mine) have really changed. Continue to stay strong in your faith. My prayers are with you. Please keep us updated on your situation. God bless, DHP in Virginia.

Praying for you; suffering from Lupus too
by: KaT

You are surely in my prayers. I also suffer from the worsening effects of Lupus, Fibromyalgia, seizures, depression, anxiety and a few others. I stumbled across this post trying to find grants for disabled women to get home repairs and reliable transportation because it is impossible to obtain either on an SSI income alone.
Still praying for Lisa...

Be encouraged!
by: Anonymous

I just read that you could apply online for the free application for (fafsa) Federal Student Aid. When your application is processed, your disability will be notified of other federal grants for disabled women. You can also check "The Directory of Financial Aid for Women 2007-2009" by Gail Schlachter and R. David Weber. This directory includes a section on grants for women with disabilities. If I see or hear of anything else, I will surely let you know. I will also continue to pray for you and may God be with you.

Tested for Lyme?
by: Anonymous

Have you all been tested for lyme or at least read up on it? This is what happened to me and I had all your symptoms. What about grants?

I Also Hear You
by: Anonymous

My heart goes out to you. I'm also disabled with fibromyalgia, rheumatoid and inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis, bad discs in my upper and lower back, severe depression, and so on. I was in nursing for 30 years and then in 2005 finally fell very ill. The plus was that I got a Hoveround to help, but I need a lift so that I can use it. Financially I'm like you. My disability doesn't pay much and it's very difficult. I'll pray for you to get the help you need. God bless you.

I Hear You
by: Kelli

I have been through a lot with my health as well. I don't get enough on SS and now they are trying to tell me I am healthy enough to work, even though I have several new diagnoses. My thoughts are with you.
