Father With Disabled Wife Seeks Government Grant Money Just To Live Again
by Kevin Jones
(Indianapolis, IN, USA)
My name is Kevin Jones. I am writing because my disabled wife Mary and I need help from an agency or foundation, or perhaps some government grant money.
In the summer of 2005 Mary had a major stroke. She was hospitalized for about eight months before she was able to come home again.
We have been married for about fifteen years now, and even though times are hard for us, our love for each other remains strong.
Mary gets home care when I'm working and she also has to go to dialysis three times a week but she's strong and doing well.
Her life before the stroke was one of community service and helping others.
She was the mission director at our local church and held several service functions for the community every year, from a food pantry to health fairs and clothing drives.
She also worked in a cafeteria worker and provided after school care for a local middle school.
Needless to say life is different now.
I am doing my best to keep things going but I myself have been struggling with my weight and blood pressure.
I lost my drivers license about six years ago because of unpaid tickets so I have been riding the bus to work every day.
I had a good job but got laid off in February of 2008. The only work I was able to find after that was part-time so my income if less than half of what it was before.
Mary gets disability but most of it goes for rent and her meds. I try to handle everything else with my income but it's a tight fight with a short stick.
I would love to get my license back but just don't have the disposable income to do it. For Mary and I just being able to drive around again would mean a lot to us.
We're not asking a lot, just enough to make life a little normal again.
If you have any information on government grants or an agency or foundation that can help, please let us know. Sincerely Kevin and Mary Jones.
