Family Seeks Government Grant To Get Back Into Small Business Again

by Marylyn Brennan
(Frederick, MD, USA)

I am a mother of a 17 year old with autism. My son is extremely enthusiastic about working and having a job.

My husband is a professional who was laid off six months ago. I am a non-status federal employee whose term is ending in a few months.

The state we live in has cut DDA (Developmental Disabilities Administration) services by over $25 million.

My son, even though he has autism, is very sociable and a very hard worker. He absolutely loves people and touches many with his kindness.

When I owned a teaching business he was very helpful with the students and gave back considerably.

With the DDA cuts my fear is that he will not be able to have meaningful employment. It seems a waste to just have him sit home.

I possess an advanced degree in business and have owned a business before. It was a very successful teaching business and truly enriched children's lives.

My husband has over 30 years professional experience and has not been able to find a position for over six months.

We have lost over 50% of the equity in our home and truly need some assistance to buy a business. This would not only provide help to us, but to all the people we will serve. It will be paid back to the community we serve.
