Ex-Mechanic Hoping Government Housing Grants Are Available For Disabled Persons

by Michael Gervais
(Lehigh Acres, FL, USA)

I'm 35-year-old ex-mechanic hoping government housing grants are available for disabled persons.

I'm living with rods, screws, pins and a Medtronic unit in my back to keep my muscles alive. I've been like this for the past six and a half years. I'm unable to work. I'm a stay-at-home dad while my wife works full time.

I've been on the waiting list for a long time to get help. The doctors are saying that in the next year or two I'll be in a wheelchair. We need to set up the house for handicap accessibility.

I have a five-year-old son that I can't even be a real dad to because of my disability. I get a disability check each month and then my wife gets paid every week. But that is not enough. We make sure that our son is taken care of first before we get anything.

I have medical bills stacking up that I can't even try to pay. And we need to find a new house or fix up this house that we're renting to make it handicap-friendly.

Getting a government housing grant or any other assistance for people with disabilities will really help get us started on a place that will suit me when I'm in a wheel chair. I can pay off some bills and then get a vehicle that will fit my disability.

I want to thank you for taking time to read my proposal and your concern for my disability.

Good luck to you!

I wish you luck and hope you can find some housing. Start by applying at the Hud web site (www.hud.gov). If you're on SSI, you may be able to get housing. Also contact Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat.org). There may be one in your area.

I am a felon with a messed up spine. I know I could use some surgery. Some days I force myself to run and work out. As a felon I have found that men have it harder to get access to housing unless you have kids or are married. If you have a girlfriend get married. If you have some kids, you'll get housing.

More Details Needed
by: Anonymous

Ex-Mechanic,

You do not mention how you became disabled. Pins and screws tells me accident, and I believe the nature thereof is important. Let me explain.

If your accident was brought on by no fault of your own, you would be more favored for help. If your accident was brought on by your own negligence, it may be a bit different.

Try rewriting your story with more details.

Best wishes,
RG
