Divorced Disabled Grandmother Seeks Grant Money For Independent Living
by Louise C. Sherlock
(Corbin, Kentucky, USA)
I'm a grandmother and I've been divorced and disabled since 2005. I'm looking for some grant money, or anything really, to help me live a more independent life.
I (rent) live on a rural farm in Kentucky, very isolated. The house is nice, but old and drafty. I would ask the owners for help but I don't want to do anything that would jeopardize my living here, even though they are very good people.
I have been told I can do anything I want that would make the house better, but disability doesn't give me much to work with after paying bills.
My lungs, and legs are so week I need a chair desperately to get around. Sometimes I can't find one when I go shopping.
It would be nice to have a ramp on my porch. The steps can be so tiring, even though there are only eight of them. A chair and ramp would help, and make me more independent.
I hope this doesn't sound foolish, but I am a good cook, have been for many years, and make the best candy and cakes. I've sold many over the years but now that I don't have the resources, I've had to give it up.
If I had enough to get started, I know I could supplement what little I get and get myself some decent furniture, but after paying bills, I never have much left over.
There is still so much I can offer to help myself, but that still takes a little money. If someone could give me helping hand, it would be much appreciated.
It's the little things that seem to cost the most. Sincerely, Ms. Louise Sherlock.
