Disabled Woman Seeks Government Grant For Community Therapy Pool

by Sharon Witt
(Gordon, NE, USA)

I live in a small community of 1800 people. I have had two spinal fusion surgeries and still have a lot of back pain.

I need to exercise and water therapy is the only way I can exercise without a lot of pain.

We have a city pool that is only open in the summer months. A neighboring town has an enclosed pool but is only open during the summer months also.

There is a pool open year round that is 100 miles away. That is too far to travel for daily exercise.

There are people in the community that would benefit greatly from a therapy pool. Stroke victims and others such as I would be able to use the pool.

We have a physical therapist in town that would like to sponsor the pool but would need $20,000 would give us an endless pool.

I would rather see a therapy pool although this would require an investment of about $100,000. Thank you.

Did you ever receive a response to your post? My dad suffered a stroke 5 years ago and we have taken him to a two different therapy pools. I think it is very beneficial, it's just not always easy for people like him. My mom and I need to go in with him.
