Disabled Veteran Seeks Grant Money To Survive Wait Period For Disability

by Shawn Hudson
(Riegelwood, North Carolina, USA)

My name is Shawn. I have been suffering from PTSD for years now. Its getting harder and harder for me to work on a public job all year long.

My VA doctor through FMLA has made it where I take time off from work every month. I feel like I'm being mistreated at work because of it.

I toss and turn at night with flashbacks of things that happened while I was in the military. The doctors have just diagnosed me with sleep apnea. Now I have to wear a mask on my face at night to get rest.

I have been out of work for almost two months now for on the job stress. I can't go on like this. I went and filed for social security disability three weeks ago. They told me I would have to be out of work for about a year to get SSDI.

I don't have the money to last a year. I went to my local VA office to talk with a counselor about getting 100% disability from the VA. I was told I have to be out of work for about 6 to 7 months to qualify for it.

If I could borrow about $8,000 my family and I could make it for seven months. This would give me enough time to get the disability I need from the VA.

Even if you can't help, please pray for my family and me. Thank you for anything you can send our way.

VA and Fellow Warrior
by: Wounded Warrior

Dear warrior, I hope sincerely that your family and friends are there to be by your side while you go through this difficult and sometimes overbearing transition in your life. I got out of the Marine Corps 6 months after returning from Iraq round 2. I sympathize with you and all the other vets who go through this. It's not right. We need the support from our Government and our public, for the sacrifices we made in order to support their freedom. Hang in there. You are in my prayers.

Check back on changes that have been made at the VA regarding expediting claims for recent releases.

Not perfected yet, but improving greatly.

Good Luck!
by: Anonymous

I have PTSD and numerous other medical problems caused by the Military. Based on my own experience I think you may find it difficult to get a disability rating. It took me six years, and I had factual evidence recorded. Good luck with your quest, but do not rely on getting the disability.
