Disabled Single Grandmother Seeks Grant Money Raising Oldest Grandchild

by Tammy Agoney
(Peru, NY, USA)

This is Landon, my little man

On October 22, 1997 at 11:35 pm I was involved in a one-car accident. The result of this accident was two broken and crushed vertebrae in my lower back.

I did not get disability benefits for over a year after the accident. I have had 11 spinal surgeries since then.

I undergo steroid injections about every three months, and on the off months i undergo epidural injections.

While these injections help the pain only in a small way, any relief is better than none.

I have trouble walking. Sometimes it is very difficult to perform everyday tasks. In 2005 my oldest daughter had a little boy.

When he was five months old I did not like the way he was being taken care of. He was left with me for long periods of time.

I went to the court and received emergency custody. I filed for and was awarded full custody. He knows me as mom, not grandma.

My daughter sees him on a regular basis. I am raising him as my own. He is five years old and starts kindergarten in September.
