Disabled Seniors Seek Government Housing Grant To Keep Home

by Dennis
(Maryland, USA)

Hello to all. My name is Dennis. I contracted Polio at age two back in 1949. I was able to live my life in spite of it, but now it's come back in another form.

The disease hospitalized me for two years as a child with several surgeries and many years of physical therapy until the doctors finally threw in the towel.

I was left with a 90% paralyzed left arm. I have recently been diagnosed with PPS (post polio syndrome). It seems so ironic to overcome a handicap through most of your adult life and then have the original disease come back to haunt you in your later years.

My wife is disabled due to a severe brain aneurism. We're both trying to survive on our Social Security but with the ever-rising cost of living and our home in drastic need of repairs I am afraid we will not be able to keep our home.

If anyone knows of a grant to help disabled seniors keep their home please let us know. Thanks to all and God bless.

Housing Grants

Congratulations on making the effort to submit your story to Accessible.org. With the publication of your story, you are now well on your way to:

1. Getting your story known to a wide audience that could help you.

2. Getting your story polished up and presentable so you can submit it elsewhere, including the White House.

As a disabled person myself, I can sympathize with your situation and I definitely understand your need for help.

I've done a bit of research and found these resources for you:

HUD/Housing
http://portal.hud.gov/portal/page/portal/HUD

http://www.homebuyerfunds.com/
HomeBuyerFunds.com is an online resource for homebuyers & homeowners.

Others reading your story may be able to contribute more. In any case, please let us know if they've been helpful to you.

Good luck!
