Disabled Marine Corps Veteran Seeks Grant Money For Home And Van Repair

by John Liptok
(Pottsville, PA, USA)

I am a 45-year-old disabled veteran. I served In the USMC in the 1980s at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

While serving, I had many medical issues that went undiagnosed. I got out of the MC and went into Security and spent over 15 years in that field.

Then I went into transportation and spent eight years as an over-the-road driver hauling lots of military loads.

I was sick in the military, and it got worse as time progressed. In 2007 I was declared totally disabled.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's, fibromyalgia, severe head trauma, scoliosis, crushed discs, spinal trauma, RLS, stomach issues, and tons of things I can't even spell.

This was far worse than anything I ever encountered because I was laid up at home on the couch day in and day out, in agony. All my monies went to doctors and hospitals and medicines.

My mind was preoccupied with how to keep the house, the car, put the kids through school, buying groceries, clothes, and gifts for birthdays and Christmas.

We barely survive!

The VA won't talk to me. Their representatives send out a form letter with the impersonal "not their problem" and "sorry, can't help" statements.

I am seeking grants because our furnace is leaking and needs to be replaced at an estimated cost of $4000+.

Our electric bill keeps going up and is impossible to control. We were looking at solar to make the home "green" and self supporting instead of depending on outside electricity, but that would cost us over $12000.

My vehicle is a 1994 van, all rusted out, and gets about 4 mpg. The tires are bald and cost $300 each. The windshield has cracks, it leaks inside (water-rain), and it has engine issues. I can't fix it!

We want better for our kids. Getting a grant for home repairs, furnace and or a dependable vehicle would be very appreciated and would help saving a few dollars so we could put it away for the house or kids and make it a reality not a dream.

I would appreciate any help on this issue. Thank You.
