Disabled Man Seeks Government Grant Money For Medical Expense Debt Relief

by Terry Smith
(Lewiston, Maine, USA)

Five years ago my significant other of 32 years passed away unexpectedly from complications of Crohn's Disease.

He had what we thought was an uncomplicated surgery which resulted in an infection that took his life a week later.

He didn't have life insurance due to his illness, but he never told me this because he didn't want to worry me. At the time of his death he was still looking for an insurance that would cover him.

He left me with all the bills, the mortgage, and his funeral costs. I ended up borrowing money and living on credit cards to make ends meet.

Here it is five years later and it is my turn. I have been dealing with a lung disorder for about a year now.

The medical bills have piled up due to co-pays and the cost of medications. I had to go out of work for short-term disability, which reduced my income by a third.

Again I lived off credit. Now I am in debt and having a difficult time paying everything.

My quality of life is affected by needing to work just to pay bills. I only owe about $15,000, but it may as well be $15 million.

I don't see any way out. I was hoping my golden years would be peaceful ones, but it looks like I am going to be burdened with debt until I die.

The stress of being trapped has an adverse affect on my health, but I can't rest, I have to keep going to pay the bills.

Getting debt relief with a government grant or other means would be an act of GOD to me. Thank you!
