Disabled Husband and Wife Need Grant Money For Home And Medical Expenses

by Karen Taylor
(West Portsmouth, OH, USA)

I am a 45-year-old woman who has worked since the age of 14. My husband and I are looking for grant money for home and medical expenses.

I had a very traumatic childhood. My parents divorced when I was six. My father worked away, so I was forced to live with my mother.

My mother was very verbally abusive, and brought many men home who were also abusive.

Thank God I met my husband when I was 15 years old and his parents took me out of my abusive situation. My husband and I have been together since.

My husband was disabled through his employment. He worked as a Correctional Officer at a State Prison and was attacked by an inmate. The attack left him with damage to his back.

My disability stems from two diseases. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus in 1995. While being treated for Lupus, I could not get better.

A new doctor ran tests and found that I not only have lupus, but also a disabling disease called Dermatomyositis.

The Lupus attacks my joints, and the Dermatomyositis attacks my muscles leaving them swollen, damaged and very weak.

I worked with children with various disabilities, but had to stop because I could no longer care for them due to joint pain and muscle pain and weakness.

I then began working at a OBGYN office, but became very ill and unable to go to work. I was told that I either show up the next day or I would no longer be employed.

I was too ill to go the next day so I lost my job. I am now on steroids and chemotherapy, which makes it impossible for me to work.

Medical bills are very high for my treatment, and I am preparing to start a new series of treatments that are very expensive.

My husband and I have both worked since our teenage years, but now we are unable to.

Our home and medical treatments are the only two things that matter. We do not want to lose our home, or have to postpone my medical treatments.
