Disabled Family Seeks Government Grant To Buy Handicapped Accessible Home

by Mary McLean
(Webb City, MO, USA)

We have a son Brad who was born with cerebral palsy. He is now 22 and completely disabled, needing to be changed, fed, and everything.

My husband, who has been a diabetic since he was four, had triple bypass surgery in 2005.

In 2008, my husband was no longer able to work due to his heart and diabetes. He applied for social security, which took two years to get approved.

We lived on Brad's income for those two years. As for me now, I have kidney failure and getting close to have dialysis. I am also obese.

I am still able to take care of Brad but need some assistance. We want to purchase a home but due to the things that have happened to us, our credit isn't good.

We have found an owner-financed home, but we would need to make it more handicapped accessible for my son and me. It would be nice if we could purchase a home the right way.

We also need a handicapped van. Then my husband wouldn't have to lift Brad in and out of a vehicle, which is hard on him because of his heart.

Depending on where you live...

The Agency goes by various names most have the same goal in common to aid the disabled/handicapped. I imagine either you have one or public library has FREE access to a computer. I suggest you locate an agency you are comfortable with.

Enlist a librarian's assistance by allowing her to view your story or find a convenient junior college and show them your page here. The rest is history. Good luck!
