Disabled 62 Year Old Man Seeks Housing Grant Money To Avoid Foreclosure

by Pat Helton
(West Columbia, Texas, USA)

I am 62 years old and disabled. I get $1585 per month in disability. My house payments are current and have only been one month late one time.

The bank wants to foreclose on my mortgage because I owe last year's taxes and my homeowner's insurance ran out and I can't afford to renew it.

I have been given until the 15th of March to get insurance and pay my back taxes or they will foreclose.

I thought there was a program to help disabled people with this but I can't find any help. I don't know what to do.

Pay your tax first!
by: Anonymous

Taxes first! Your bank would rather wait or make arrangements with you. Foreclosure takes several months in some states. You may try a private mortgage broker if you have equity. You will pay 10-14% but this will prevent you from becoming homeless for a while. Perhaps you can get a reverse mortgage. I wish I could help you. Get the ball rolling quickly. May God bless you! Good luck.

How to get a grant...
by: Don from Accessible.Org

I'm posting here because I just deleted a comment that recommended a specific service that purports to help people get grants.

We have to extremely wary of such offerings because many are scams designed simply to sell you something.

There are definitely grants available, even to individuals. Getting a grant though is quite a bit of work. You should always start at grants.gov and work your way forward from there.

If you need help, there are legitimate books, but you don't have to buy them. You can get them from your local public library.
