Disability Education Grant For Work Accident Disabled Native American

by Lonnie
(Deridder, LA, USA)

I am a 35-year-old single Native American with a disability. I have one daughter that lives with her mother. I was a casino worker for 15 years before my accident.

On December 10, 2002 while at work, I had the L5-S1 disc rupture and was immediately hospitalized.

The emergency room diagnosed me as having a strained muscle and discharged me.

My condition deteriorated for almost a month until I saw an orthopedist. He immediately told me I must have surgery or risk never walking again.

In February of the following year I had surgery on the ruptured disc. I was put through physical therapy, and told I would be on medications for the rest of my life.

In 2008 I was declared fully disabled in need of spinal fusion, and with nerve damage. I'm still dealing with workers compensation so I can have my surgery, but they delay as long as possible

I'm now on Social Security Disability. I have to be very careful now. The wrong fall might paralyze me. I use a walker and a cane now.

I need to go to doctors and a specialist out of town. I have no dependable transportation at present.

I am on several medications now. The medications are: Oxycontin, Percocet, Cymbalta, Lisinopril And Zanaflex.

I am currently on SSI disability. I worked at a casino until 2008 when I could no longer stand. I used up all my Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) time off trying to keep my job.

I need all the information I can get in obtaining grants. I need a vehicle most importantly, as I have many doctors to visit out of town.

I also need any help with disability grants to go back to school. I want to get my associates degree in business administration to return to the casino business in a less physically demanding position.
