Desert Storm Veteran Seeking Business Grant To Open Restaurant

by Jermaine Townes
(Chicago, Illinois, USA)

Hello, I am a 39-year-old disabled Desert Storm War Veteran (U.S. NAVY), and I am seeking a grant from the U.S. Government to open a small business.

I became disabled when my wrist was badly broken during small arms fire in the Gulf of Oman. The VA has me at a 20% rating, which is next to nothing at $227 monthly. I go to school full time and I do study when I can, so I really have no other income.

My disability makes it very hard to look for that I can do. It limits my choices of work that I can do according to the VA. I love computers and that's what I'm going to school for now. I graduate in May of 2011.

I love cooking food for people, I went to school for cooking in the U.S. Navy. The type of business I want to open is a restaurant.

I grew up literally with no Mom and Dad. They passed away when I was seven years old, nine months apart. I had a hard life coming up as a kid on the west side of Chicago.

But I made it through high school and got away from all the offerings of the streets. I joined the U.S. Navy right after high school. It really showed me another side of life.

Now I want to give back so bad, by opening a restaurant and employing several workers that will help the economy. I will also put my expertise to work in the kitchen that I learned in the Navy.

I just need help with the finances. I have no one to help, no real job, and I'm in school. I need your help. Once I have it going there will be no stopping me then. I will then have a job, and I will be helping the economy

I'll have to be literally dead in order to get a grant from the VA, you are really the only hope of me opening a restaurant sooner rather than later.

Please remember, I am a Desert Storm War Veteran. WE ALL GAVE SOME, BUT SOME GAVE ALL! Bless You... Jermaine J. Townes, Lombard, Illinois.

I thank you for what you did for me. I hope you get a grant. Sounds like you know how to cook for a bunch of people, which a restaurant would require. I think, as a veteran, you should get your grant immediately. Here's hoping you do.

Hi,

I suffer chronic neck and back pain on a daily basis and want to tell you how moving your story was. I know what it is like, to feel hopeless, and to not know where to turn.

I don't have a lot to offer as far as home repair assistance goes, but I can try contacting places on your behalf to see if they would be willing to donate at least supplies to help.

My spouse wants to know if you need any type of electrical work done on the home, because he is a certified electrician.

I do a lot of gardening around spring and can offer help in this area, if you need it. Sometimes, just knowing that the flowers are coming up gives us a little hopes that we're not alone.

Wishing you well, and giving you all the support we can.
