Daughter Of Two Disabled Parents Seeks Government Grant Money To Relocate

by Allysia
(Anchorage, Alaska, USA)

I'm taking care of my disabled parents who live with me and my spouse and two kids. Now I'm looking for government grant money or equal help for an interstate move.

My parents have had many strokes; thank God they are still alive. Dad had his last stroke two years ago and it affected his speech, brain and mobility. Now he can't talk to or communicate with me anymore.

Mom and dad are both incontinent and wheelchair-bound. I have noticed that all this grosses out my husband. He won't even eat at the same table with my parents anymore.

I am stuck in the middle and don't know what to do. I have two beautiful kids on one hand and my dearest parents on the other. I can feel the tension between my husband and my parents.

I had asked for a separation and came to an agreement with him that I would not let anyone take care of my parents or let them live with just anyone.

Mom asked me two weeks ago if I could take her and dad back home to Michigan, which is where we are originally from.

We moved to Alaska because when I was taking care of mom and dad in Michigan they only paid me $300 a month, which wasn't enough to even pay for foods.

I get paid more for taking care of them more here in Alaska, so we moved here in 2005.

I had looked at a couple of duplexes that were selling for cheap, so that mom and dad could live in one and we could rent out the other, but I don't have $20,000 for the down payment.

I have contacted Michigan in regards to how to get paid more for being caregiver for your parents. They have new programs that I know I can just transfer their file to Michigan and continue getting paid for what I do.

But my concern and what I'm asking is if you can help me with the down payment. That would be great.

I know I'm probably asking for too much but I hope someone out there can understand.

I'm stuck between my family and my parents. I'm not divorcing my husband or abandoning my kids. If I get a grant and move to Michigan, I will try every year to fly them to visit me.

I love my husband but I also love my parents. Without them I would not be here and as bad as they are right now, I don't even know how long they will be with me.

I'm telling my story from the bottom of my heart, truth and honest. I thank you ahead of time for your time and consideration. May God bless you. Thank you.
