Right After Neck Surgery
My name is Richard. I am 29 years old I have been married for 10 1/2 years. I have an 11-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter.
I was born with cerebral palsy and all of my life all I have tried to do is succeed in life, emotionally, spiritually, and financially.
November 30th 2006 while on the job I was involved in an auto accident where I was hit from behind. I suffered injuries to my back and neck.
In April 2007, my employer at the time of the accident fired me. Their explanation was that my sales productivity had declined.
Even though I was suffering from severe pain I went out the following Monday and got myself a new job to try and help support my loving wife and children.
I worked at my new job until my workers compensation doctor told me I was unable to work and sent me to a neurosurgeon.
At the first visit with the neurosurgeon he said that I had a bulging disk in my neck at level c-4 c-5 and that the damaged disk was causing nerve damage.
My surgeon battled with workers compensation for almost two years before he could get an approval to do an artificial disk replacement.
In April 2008 I finally had my surgery. Unfortunately the damage to my nerves had been done. I now have numbness and tingling in both arms and hands along with severe pain 24/7.
My workers compensation company still owes me several months of temporary benefits plus penalties. I have to fight them tooth and nail just to get a doctor let alone receive money from them.
I have borrowed and borrowed from my parents to keep my family afloat. It has just become too much. I now suffer from severe depression, my marriage is now in shambles and I have no place left to turn.
My bank account is overdrawn by almost $600, I have an almost $5000 judgment against me for past credit card debt that I couldn't afford to pay due to the injury, and I owe family over $2000 for the same reason.
I have gone through State Disability and received benefits from them and have applied for SSI several times but that is another battle on top of the workers compensation battle.
If something doesn't happen soon I fear I will lose my wife and children and possibly end up homeless. Please help me! My family is all I have left.
I have no pride or even self-respect anymore because I can't provide for my family or even do little things around the house to take some of that burden off of my wife's shoulders because I hurt so bad.
