Couple Seeks Government Grant For Medically Fragile Foster Care Children

My husband and I are treatment foster care providers. We take in kids who are hard to place because of their severe medical problems.
I love caring for children and feel blessed that we have been able to deal with the challenges and stress that their special needs require.
Our home has always been open to these special kids and we have made it handicap accessible to accommodate them.
We recently found out that we will need to move out of the home that we live in because high voltage power lines are being placed in or front yard.
The lines will be carrying 169,000 volts of electricity 180 feet from our front door.
We were told at the onset of this project that Dairyland Power Company had already received permission to do this and they would be willing to work out a reasonable settlement to purchase the amount of property they would need.
After doing extensive research I found that by living this close to these lines we are at a high risk of brain tumors, Alzheimer's disease, and child leukemia to name a few of the health hazards.
We told this power company we would like them to buy our property so we can find a safe place to live. They refused.
At this point they are going through the process of condemnation, meaning they are going to be able to take it regardless of what the risks are.
We still owe $100,000 on our home and no one will buy it because of the high voltage lines. My banker said in order to get the house we found and get a new mortgage we need to prove we can pay for two mortgages.
The only way we can do that is with a large down payment. We cannot do that without some type of grant. We are desperate.
These kids are already at risk with their medical problems and we want to be able to continue to provide a safe healthy environment for them.
Please seriously consider helping us in this matter. We are very much in need.
