COPD Disabled Army Veteran Seeks Grant Money For Home Repairs And Autos

by David Musgrove
(Covington, GA, USA)

I am a US Army veteran, very happily married, with two stepchildren -- a boy and girl.

I also have a son, 28, eight grandchildren (four boys and four girls) and one great grandchild.

I went into the Army in 1972 and got out in 1984. I am 56 and a male. We live in the country with three dogs.

And I have a life with God in it. Without Him I would be lost. God makes me look at things differently.

I suffer from COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Type 2 diabetes, depression and high blood pressure.

There is no cure for my COPD. I take 23 medications a day just to stay alive.

My wife has to help me in and out of the shower. She helps me dress and dry off. My grandson drives me to the VA.

I am rated as 100% disabled with Veterans Affairs in Atlanta, GA, and have been housebound for about two years.

I receive a VA pension disability of $1949 per month. That is all. I do not work and I cannot ever work again.

My monthly bills are: electricity $225, home $757, auto $232, phone $55, insurance $260, wife's car $300. There is no money left over.

I am looking for a grant to fix up my home and pay off both autos, a 2007 Toyota Yaris and a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer.

Also, our home needs a new roof, new heat pump, some painting and major woodwork.

Please help us find a way out of our financial situation.
