Caregiver Seeks Grant Money For Accessible Bathroom For Elderly Disabled Charges
by Jackie McKenzie
(Sudlersville, Maryland, USA)
My name is Jackie and my husband and I live in farm country in Queen Anne's county on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Living with us is my 81-year-old mother who was diagnosed with dementia, my 62-year-old sister who has CP and is totally disabled and a friend of the family that is 90 years old.
I take care of all of them. I consider our home to be a nice home but our bathroom has a tub and my mother, sister or friend cannot take a bath because they cannot get into the tub.
I am looking for a grant that would allow us to remodel our bathroom so we could place a large walk-in shower so I could take my sister in with a shower chair and shower her and my mother and our friend could take a shower also.
My husband and I cannot afford to pay for the remodeling. My sister does get assistance from the state but it would not pay to remodel our bathroom.
We do not need anything that is elaborate, just something that would allow these people to take a shower.
We would really appreciate any help that we would be given. Thank you so much for pointing us to any thing helpful. Sincerely, Jackie McKenzie.
